Newsflash

The Molecular Engineering Group has deployed the latest addition to its computer facilities, a BEOWULF type computer cluster named Coeus. This time we chose the Rocks 5.2.1 distribution as the operating system, which has proven a wise decision. The cluster is already performing production runs and will be expanding in the near future.

The ICCMSE (International Conference of Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering) aims to bring together computational scientists from several disciplines in order to share methods and ideas. Some of the topics covered are (not limited to) Computational Mathematics, Theoretical Physics and Theoretical Chemistry, Computational Engineering, Computational Biology and Medicine, Financial Forecasting, High Performance Computing, Data Mining and Information Retrieval, Virtual Reality and Image Processing.

Each year during the conference the scientific commitee distinguishes papers presented by graduate students (or with recently completed Ph.D. thesis) and presents them with the Young Scientist Excellence Award. The award for the sixth ICCMSE (2008) has been granted to a member of our group, Emmanuel N. Koukaras for his presentation of the paper entitled "Multidecker stacking and cluster fusion of silicon-carbon clusters".
