Spiros Fotopoulos was born in Kalamata, Greece, in 1952. He completed his B.Sc. studies in the Department of Physics at the University of Athens (1969-1974) and received his PhD in Electronic Circuits in 1983 from the Department of Physics of the University of Patras (Prof. T. Deliyannis). During his PhD studies, he visited the Department of Electrical Engineering, Imperial College (Prof. Saraga). He visited the Tampere University of Technology (Prof. Neuvo) and got experience in median and nonlinear digital filters. He has been an academic member of staff of the University of Patras since 1983. He is Professor of Signals and Circuits since 2003 and teaches courses in Circuit Theory and in Digital Signal and Image Processing. His research activities include, Segmentation and Coding, Content Based Image and Video Retrieval, Human centric image processing, Biomedical and Biometric applications. His publication record includes more than 100 journal and conference papers and 3 book chapters. He has authored a textbook in Digital Signal Processing and a second one in Theory of Circuits and Signals (in Greek).
